Power Testing
One of the stand-out features of Taekwon-Do is the immense amount of power it can produce, even from people who aren't big or immensely strong. In order to check that our techniques work and to continue to develop them to be as effective as possible, we test them on plastic breaking boards, wood, bricks, and breezeblocks. This allows us to see the devastating impact our techniques would have on an opponent's body, without putting our training partners at risk. It's impossible to doubt the effectiveness of authentic Taekwon-Do when you train at a school where the power of techniques is so obviously demonstrated.
As well as being a physical test of the power of your techniques, it is also a mental test that requires you to overcome fear and self doubt. Conditioning is an important part of power testing, and this is why we train in bare feet, do push ups on our knuckles, and practice sparring without safety equipment.
We practice breaking with a multitude of techniques, using different parts of the hands and feet to execute kicks, punches, strikes, thrusts, and at advanced levels, flying techniques.
